What is WS2017?

WS camps have been held in West Sussex for more than 30 years and feature as a high point in the County Scout and Guide programme.  It is an international experience for young people from around the world, joining in a week of activities together including:

Water activities, Abseiling, climbing, Archery and other adventurous & challenging activities. Plus cultural activities, sub-camp competitions, musical entertainments, social events, live bands, discos, crafts and even more.

Where is it held?

  • The camp is held at South of England Showground Ardingly West Sussex RH17 6TL.
  • Ardingly is 11 miles London Gatwick Airport & 51 miles from London Heathrow Airport
  • London is 36 miles away with good transport links

When is it?

The camp runs from Saturday 5th August to Saturday 12th August 2017

Who can join in?

  • West Sussex Guides and Scouts
  • West Sussex Guides Senior Section and Explorer Scouts (under 18’s)
  • Overseas Scout and Guide groups affiliated to WAGGGs or WOSM
  • Adults either as leaders with a unit or as part of a WS support team

How much does it cost?

The camp cost is £170 per youth participant and this includes:

  • Souvenir Camp T- shirt
  • All activities
  • Camp Handbook
  • WS2017 Camp Badge

Adult Leaders with Groups/Units cost £55 (max ratio: 1 adult to 6 participants)

All food & transport is arranged & paid for by individual Groups/Units

WS Main Camp Staff – no camp fees, just transport and food costs.





Raising funds to build a modern and vibrant indoor activity space where children and young people with complex disabilities and health needs can participate in a mixture of arts and physical activities. The Dream Centre will give disabled children a new way to explore the world where they can participate in an amazing range of different activities that many will experience for the first time. Based at Chailey Heritage School in East Sussex, a charitable special school for children and young adults, with complex physical disabilities, 2nd Chailey is a Scout Group set up for anyone of Scouting age that attends the school. The group is run entirely by volunteers and is a fully integrated group within the UK Scout Association, the group meets weekly and goes on camp, under canvas every year! They have been regular participants at WS Camps & we are pleased to see them back for WS2017 Please visit them on Hufflepuff & see the contribution Scouting makes to these young people with new experiences & the difference it makes to their lives, you will be amazed at what you see.

COCO’S FOUNDATION Crawley West Sussex

A charity supported by Sussex Central Guides who have sent members to South Africa on community projects & have been inspired by the help & difference they have made to others in true Guiding spirit. So many positive examples of their experiences given by Sussex Central Guide Members that have attended that this proved an easy choice. As a registered UK charity, CoCo Foundation inspire UK teenagers so they can support and help orphaned children communities within the poorest areas in South Africa. Their aim is to deliver each child’s basic needs: food, water, shelter and professional emotional support. The Foundation works with international companies, UK schools, community groups and many individual volunteers to help change children’s lives. They are funded entirely by donations. The Foundation do not take any administrative costs and every penny donated goes to one of our core projects:- Build4TheFuture – providing homes and shelter for child-headed families                                        Food4Life – feeding children every day         Skills4Life – delivering professional emotional & life skills
